Several factors of different kinds seem to create new perspectives for EU Latin American relations. There are, first of all, international incentives and more specifically two factors: the increasing diffusion of world power, particularly with the rise of China and the "America first" policy. On the other hand, there are internal factors such as the decline of protectionist policies in Latin America and the renewed interest of the European Union for the Latin American continent. The question that arises is whether Latin American and European actors will seize the opportunity (momentum) to develop a common vision of geopolitical challenges to act in a concerted manner in world affairs.
